Visiting Knebworth House

All tours are guided, except on busy weekends, when “free-flow” tours operate with House Wardens in key areas.

Groups will be split into parties of 25 maximum. Guided Tours take approximately 1 hour; however, we can vary the timing and content of a tour to suit the interests and needs of the group.

Ground Floor rooms are accessible to wheelchairs, but we ask that pushchairs and mobility scooters are not used in the House or Raj exhibition.

Disability Access

As an historic building, the House regrettably has no lift to the first floor. However, Knebworth’s history can be conveyed to visitors with impaired mobility on the ground floor.

Wheelchair accessible toilets are located at the entrance of the gardens, in the House and at the Adventure Playground.

wheelchair is available for use from the Gift Shop. Unfortunately, the wheelchair cannot be reserved.

Parking is available directly in front of the House by prior arrangement.

The Garden paths are mostly gravel.

Guide dogs for the blind and hearing dogs for the deaf are permitted throughout the House, Gardens and Park.

Free admission for full time carers on a 1:1 basis

Knebworth House and Park operates the standard admission policy that any paying visitor with a disability requiring an essential companion can be accompanied by one essential companion free of charge – providing that they can present one of the following pieces of evidence on arrival at the ticket kiosks.

  • Disability Living Allowance (DLA);
  • Attendance Allowance (AA);
  • Blind Persons Registration;
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP);
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP).
  • CredAbility’s Access Card with +1 symbol
  • CEA Card

Without proof as listed standard admission entry charges will apply. Any further members of the party will pay full price. This information is listed on our website and within our disability access statement.

Unfortunately we cannot accept blue/orange badges, HANDS cards, carers passport etc. as these are not proof of needing an essential companion. Attractions that do accept the HANDS cards are listed on the HANDS card website.

Disabled car parking spaces are available to anyone who requires it at the playground and the barns car park. We can also arrange parking in the front courtyard of the house if required.

We are happy to offer assistance to visitors wherever possible and if you have any further queries please contact the duty manager.
